COQUINA KEY
|
CARVED INITIALS |
Breeding goal: A solid pink carved flower that resists northern winters.
Expectations: 'Coquina Key' is a non-yellow carved flower, yay! This will save me
a lot of trouble, because the genes for yellow and carving must be de-segregated in this cultivar, and they should
be with 'Carved Initials.' I will outbreed this cross to solid pinks with 'Pink Aloha' and large
flwoered parentage.
Number of seeds: 6
Germinated: 3
Survived winter: 3

Notes: July 4. FFO. Polypetal. I'm beginning to think that 'Carved Initials' is an ugly flower
machine. It is sculpted, but the color is terrible, as is the size.
Notes: July 12. FFO. On the surface, this is a complete dud. But it's very scultped (doesn't show on picture), it's
not yellow/orange, and it's got some pink on it. It's like some garbled super-sculpted. I think if I cross it to a good
pink, this can produce something decent. I will try it.
Notes: July 25. It has improved, though this flower takes a few days to open... and the pollen sacs burst open while
the bloom is closed. A weird thing, this one; I'm crossing it to great green eyed pinks, I have a good feeling the
sculpting will be passed on - it is extremely deep.
